The Hardest I Ever LaughedWe smoke a bowl, you retire to your room to get scared and play Minecraft and think,
I lay on my back and close my eyes with a speaker on my chest,
feeling the bass course through my arms, legs, and soul.
Two minutes later, you return, you can’t control yourself, giggles escaping your throat until you finally keel over in laughter.
“Important thought” you say. Five more minutes of giggling.
“Important thought- me, a Minecraft connoisseur:”
- you point at nothing -
“Hey look, it’s Blockboy!”
Who is Blockboy? What does that mean? what is a Minecraft connoisseur? there’s only one minecraft, how do you connoisseur it? what’s the root word of connoisseur? can you connoisseu something? does the e or the u come first in that word? is it french? latin? some third language we made up? what do you mean blockboy? who is that? is this real? did you just say that? why am i laughing so hard? why are we laughing so hard? am i blockboy? is block boy one or two words? what did you point at? who are we? what song is playing right now? do you know that the two of us experiencing blockboy will die in two months? that the last thing you’ll say to me is “i love you”? that the man that left your apartment that day and the creature that returned next year are not the same? that when we pass each other on the train, we’ll pass as strangers? is the recognition in your eyes for me or for block boy?
Oh. Blocks. Like Minecraft. I get it.
video of me reading this at the Wreath release event, if you're into that sort of thing (it's a little wonky framing wise but i'm too lazy to edit and fix it):
This piece was written for and featured in Wreath! You should check it out :)
